DMG DMU / DMC monoBLOCK® Series

The machines in the DMU /DMC monoBLOCK® series enable 3 to 5-axis simultaneous machining with little space requirements and at a moderate price. With the monoblock design, DMG MORI responded to the trend that machining individual parts and small series production is increasingly turning into series production and vice versa. With their special concept, these machines have proven themselves for many years in many production environments and cover a wide range of applications in tool and mold making, from universal to productive. The various expansion options also play a special role.

External values

The most striking external feature of the monoBLOCK® series is its compact design, with the smallest model DMU 40 requiring just 4 m² of machine floor space. Also immediately noticeable are the large viewing windows, through which the entire work area can be seen at a glance, as well as the wide-opening revolving door for ergonomic loading and unloading of the work area and direct access to the work table.

The monoBLOCK® design of the DMU series with linear guides in the Z axis (430, 530 or 600 mm depending on the model) ensures high stability and large feed forces with maximum precision. The longitudinal and transverse movements are traversed by the milling head and the vertical ones by the table, which leads to optimal adhesion in the Z-axis guidance. The funnel design of the machine bed, newly introduced with the series, enables optimal return of chips and coolant.

Technical features and equipment

The DMU / DMC monoBLOCK® series includes machines of different sizes and features. As the smallest machine, the DMU 40 offers an easy entry into 5-axis simultaneous milling for demanding workpieces, while the DMU 60, DMU 80 and DMU 100 with three axes as standard and the options 3+2, 4 or 5 axes are ideal for 5- Side machining and simultaneous 5-axis milling can be used universally. In the basic configuration, the machines have a tool changer with 16 (DMU 40), 24 (DMU 60) or 32 (DMU 80 and DMU 100) places; an optional chain magazine with 60 tool places is available.

A rigid table is installed in the DMU 60 and DMU 80 models; an NC rotary table integrated into the rigid table is available as an option. An optional NC add-on table is also available for the models 60, 80 and 100, which can be mounted either horizontally or vertically on the DMU 60 and 80. The DMU 40 has an NC rotary table, just like the DMC 60 T model, where this is expanded with a compact rotary pallet changer in a 45° arrangement. Two pallets are included as standard and can be expanded to 5 with the optional RS3 round storage. Also included in the basic equipment of the T-model is the so-called “production package” with coolant container, paper belt filter, scraper belt chip conveyor and Rotoclear. In the DMC 60 T RS3 model, the circular storage tank is already included in the basic equipment.

The DMU 40 and DMC 60 T models have a dynamic milling head as an NC-controlled B-axis with a swivel range of up to 150°, which, in combination with the NC rotary table, the NC add-on table or the NC dividing head, creates complex 5-sided – or 5-axis machining possible, with negative angles up to 30° also being adjustable. The DMU 60, DMU 80 and DMU 100 are equipped with a manual milling head as standard, but the NC swivel head can also be used here as an optional extension. With rapid traverses of up to 30 m/min linear and up to 60 min-1 in the rotary axes, short machining times can be achieved, and with the various spindle options, machining up to the high-speed range is possible. For example, the optional HSK-A63 with 26 kW and 85 Nm reaches up to 24,000 rpm and the HSK-E50 reaches up to 42,000 rpm with 13 kW and 8.3 Nm. The DMU 80 and DMU 100 models can also be equipped with a torque spindle with 30 kW, 288 Nm and up to 10,000 rpm.

The DMU / DMC monoBLOCK® machines also have digital drives and direct position measuring systems in all axes, an integrated scraper belt chip conveyor, electronic temperature compensation, tool measurement in the work area, oil mist separation, measuring probe and an electronic handwheel.

The basic equipment of the machines can also be expanded with various options, such as a production package with 600 l coolant tank and IKZ (40 bar), the 3D quickSET for checking and correcting the axis accuracy in space and ATC (Application Tuning Cycle) for easy tuning of the linear Feed drives at the touch of a button to minimize processing time.

NC Control

The DMG ERGOline® Control with 19″ screen and 3D workpiece simulation serves as the control center for the machine tools of the DMU / DMC monoBLOCK® series. Additional DMG SOFTkeys® and further status information can be integrated. The control unit as well as the optional mouse pad and the optionally adaptable one Seat support can be optimally adjusted ergonomically. Instead of a key switch, the intelligent DMG SMARTkey® with chip is used, with which the various machine operating modes can be called up and personal access authorization can be managed.

The Heidenhain iTNC 530 and the Heidenhain MillPlus iT ensure quick program creation with 3D workpiece representation. It is also possible to operate the DECKEL MAHO MillPlus iT V600, which provides the user with high-level language elements and special mold making functions. The DMC 60 T can also be operated with the Siemens 840D. All control variants have high memory capacities and fast processors.

Buying used DMG DMU / DMC monoBLOCK®

With their great flexibility, small space requirements and their modular expansion concept, the machining centers of the DMU / DMC monoBLOCK® series are highly efficient machine tools for a variety of applications in a wide variety of industries. Small and medium-sized companies in the areas of tool and mold making in particular benefit from the advantages of this machine concept when it comes to complete machining with 5 axes. In the fully automated version DMC 60 T RS 3, the monoBLOCK® machines are also often used in medical technology, aerospace technology as well as component manufacturers and in contract manufacturing.
